RTIMEISNOW

I first met Ben Cajee when we were both at school in Devon. As well as playing alot of football we also worked on a bunch of projects together in class. I remember we once put together an anti-racism advert in Media Studies and ended up getting interviewed on the local radio about it (Ben promises me he still has a recording of it somewhere!). It’s clear that even back then in school he was committed to campaigning for change, something that he has continued through University and up to the present with the ‘rtimeisnow’ movement. I asked Ben to describe some of the ideas behind rtimeisnow, so in his words:

‘I launched the site back in May and it's now been accessed in over 50 countries, across 6 continents. In short, it's a movement to inspire and engage young people irrespective of background and culture. It's for anyone with big dreams and aspirations, whilst looking at fulfillment for the individual and celebrating difference. To that end, the site contains a combination of guest writers, feature writing and video content, which covers a whole range of different issues. These vary from topics such as sport, music, career, charity and voluntary work, graduate schemes, travel, fulfillment and purpose, inspiration, entrepreneurs, amongst other things.‘

When we heard about rtimeisnow we knew we wanted to work with them in some way, it was just a question of how? Then we heard about the Nanyuki project and it all fitted together perfectly! Over the last few months rtimeisnow have been sending clothes over to East Africa to be distributed at local children’s homes and schools. With our first batch of shirts we had a number of slightly mis-printed shirts and we were trying to work out what to do with them. Rather than sell them for a discounted price we wanted to do something a bit different with them, something interesting and worthwhile. To be able to send them over to Nanyuki and know that they will be appreciated seemed like the perfect solution.

We are really excited to be involved with rtimeisnow and can't wait to see the photos of our shirts over in Nanyuki!
